More London Sights
In cosmopolitan London, there are so many worthy sights
than you might want to order your afternoon tea to
go....
- St Paul's Cathedral - Religion, English style. Built by
Wren right after the Great Fire of 1666.
- Houses of Parliament - you've seen them argue on
C-Span, now check it out in person.
- Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum - Popular with all ages.
Her story is as interesting as her wax subjects.
- Vinopolis - Wines from all over the world. Come
for the history, stay for the samples.
- London Eye Ferris Wheel - Offers the highest
public view (450
ft) available of this relatively short city.
- Cabinet War Rooms - In the dire times of WWII, the
brains of Britain's battle went below ground.
- Theatre district . Their theatres are
smaller, their prices lower, and the acting is as good as there is. Go once
and you'll want to go again.
Walk through/ drive by/ say "you've seen it" sights.
Fun to recognize, easy to see.
- Big Ben clock tower - Maybe London's most
recognizable sight. "Ben" is actually the bell.
- Trafalgar Square - Admiral Nelson in the center,
pigeons everywhere
- Piccadilly Circus - Like Times Square, a 21st century
neon spectacle
- 10 Downing Street - the Prime Minister lives
here, with a stoic sentry out front
- Covent Garden - an old mall, London style, with
modern shops and restaurants
- Tower Bridge - The bridge you visualize when
someone sings "London Bridge". Only problem is that London Bridge is in
Arizona.... Prime photo op
- Hyde Park "speakers corner"- I've never
done it, but anybody can get up and start a discussion
- Royal Albert Hall - still a famous concert venue
- Changing of the Guard - I think its overrated,
but I guess you've got to do it once

I used to pay to get into the following fantastic museums, and was happy to do so.
Now
these treasures are free, so go!
- Victoria and Albert Museum - If the British Museum wasn't
enough, here's some more good stuff
- Museum of London - Sorts out London's many
historical bits and pieces. Underrated and informative
- Imperial War Museum - Even if you're not keen on
the theme, this place demands your " atten-TION"
- Natural History Museum - I like big bones
- National Portrait Gallery - Paintings of famous
people from the last 500 years. Might surprise you
- Tate Modern - Most of my peers rate this a must see, and it
is London's modern art museum....
- Theatre Museum - Unique, fun and easy (and right
by Covent Garden if you're not a shopper, wink wink)
- Tate Britain - Gainsborough, Blake, Constable,
Turner, etc. The British are here! The British are here!
